1. What made you guys decide to start a band, and how did you come up with the name "Road Mutant"?
Me (Charlie - vocals) & Tom (guitar) had talked about doing something for a while, we’d both been delving into more old crossover, thrash and old school death metal, doing our homework and trying to dig out all the gems we’ve missed. Death Angel have a song called ‘Road Mutants’ that sparked the idea for our name and gave me the idea for the concept.
1. O que é que vos fez decidir formar uma banda, e como surgiu o nome “Road Mutant”?
Eu (Charlie – vocais) e o Tom (guitarra) já tinhamos falado sobre fazer algo há já algum tempo, ambos andavamos a mergulhar num crossover antigo, thrash e death metal old school, a fazer a nossa pesquisa e a tentar encontrar todas as jóias que nos tinham escapado. Os Death Angel têm uma musica chamada “Road Mutants” e isso desencadeou a ideia para o nosso nome e para o conceito.
2. Has any of you ever played in another band before?
Yeah we’ve all played in a bunch of bands – most notably Tom who was in ‘This is Colour’ from start to finish, they were a big time staple in the uk hardcore scene for a long time and seem to hold a big place in a lot of people’s hearts from that time still which is rad.
2. Algum de vocês tocou noutra banda no passado?
Sim todos nós tocámos num monte de bandas – mais notavelmente o Tom que esteve nos ‘This is Colour’ do princípio ao fim, eles foram um grande marco na scene hardcore do Reino Unido por muito tempo e parecem ocupar um grande lugar no coração de muita gente dessa altura, o que é brutal.
3. How would you define your band within the metal genre?
I have no idea haha, we love loads of hardcore punk, thrash, death metal, doom & stoner and it’s all in there some where sound wise I guess. If people see us as a hardcore band that’s cool, if they see us as a metal band that’s cool too. I just tell folks we’re a metal band.
3. Como definem o estilo da vossa banda dentro do metal?
Eu não faço ideia haha, nós adoramos imenso de hardcore punk, thrash, death metal, doom & stoner e está tudo lá no que toca ao som. Se as pessoas nos virem como uma banda hardcore é na boa, e se nos virem como uma banda metal tambem é na boa. Apenas digo ao pessoal que somos uma banda de metal.
4. What do you feel to be your biggest influences in making music?
Suppressed rage, the human experience, wanting to have the best time possible and sharing that energy with others... the pursuit of gnarliness? All of that probably haha. Bandswise: Sepultura, Obituary, Entombed and a hundred more.
4. O que é que sentem ser as vossas maiores influencias a fazer música?
Raiva Suprimida, a experiencia humana, queremos nos divertir ao máximo e partilhar essa energia com outras pessoas… a procura pelo mais violento? Tudo isso provavelmente haha. No que toca a bandas: Sepultura, Obituary, Entombed e centenas mais.
5. How would you describe your local underground scene and energy from the crowd during concerts?
UK Hardcore scene is thriving and we’re so happy to have the opportunity to see it and be involved in it to the extent that we are, it’s a privilege... Playing metal shows brings a whole other energy and dynamic too, so much enthusiasm and fanaticism from both so we’re blessed to get to see it all.
5. Como descrevem a vossa scene underground local e a energia do público durante os concertos?
A scene hardcore do Reino Unido está a prosperar e nós estamos felizes por ter a oportunidade de estar envolvidos nisso tanto quanto estamos, é um previlégio… Dar concertos de metal traz uma energia e dinâmica completamente diferente, tanto entusiasmo e fanatismo de ambos, nós estamos abençoados por poder ver isso tudo.
6. What is your favourite song to play live and why?
‘March of the road mutants’ is rad because a few folks know the words and get involved but I think the new single ‘Battle Cry’ is my favourite, I really want to see it kick off for that tune some time.
6. Qual é a vossa musica favorita para tocar ao vivo e porquê?
‘March of the road mutants’ é brutal porque parte do pessoal sabe a letra e envolvem-se mas eu acho que o novo single ‘Battle Cry’ é o meu favorito, eu quero ver essa música explodir em breve.
7. You have recently released a single ‘Battle Cry’. How do you feel your fans have responded to it?
Really well man, we put it out super soft without any promotion really so the love and feedback we’ve received for it was pretty surprising. I’m just stoked people even check up on us and listen to us to be honest. Having any one follow you is na amazing thing.
7. Vocês lançaram recentemente um single chamado ‘Battle Cry’. Como é que sentem que foi a resposta dos fans?
Bastante boa, nós lançamos o single sem qualquer tipo de promoção por isso todo o amor e feedback que recebemos foi surpreendente. Eu estou apenas feliz por saber que as pessoas nos seguem e ouvem. Ter alguém a seguir nos é uma coisa fantástica.
8. As a band, what are your plans for the future? Do you intend to release a full length album any time soon?
Yes the album is a big one - we’ve started writing it and will get it recorded as soon as we can. We’ve got a couple other things on the backburner until that time comes... Other than that we just want to play as many good shows as possible and keep having fun.
8. Como banda, quais são os vossos planos para o futuro? Tencionam lançar um albúm em breve?
Sim, o album é um grande objetivo – nós começamos a escreve-lo e vai ser gravado assim que consigamos. Nós temos umas quantas coisas em mente até lá… Para além disso nós apenas queremos dar o máximo de bons concertos possíveis e continuar a divertirmos-nos.
9. Would you consider touring over europe, and would Portugal be included?
Yes of course we want to get to Europe when the time is right and it would be a dream to do some shows in Portugal for sure. Fingers crossed we can put ourselves in a position to do that in the future.
9. Consideram fazer uma tour pela Europa, e seria Portugal incluído?
Sim, claro que queremos ir à Europa quando o tempo for certo e seria um sonho dar uns concertos em Portugal. Esperamos estar na posição de o fazer no futuro.
